The WHY, WHAT, HOW, WHEN & WHERE. WHY join a small group? At First AG, we believe that life-change happens in biblically functioning communities; small groups exist to inspire growth to maturity in Jesus Christ. Small groups also provide a great way to get involved and to connect with other believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching." WHAT happens at small group meeting? Every small group has its own personality but some common elements happen in most group meetings. Groups typically spend some time building relationships and getting to know each other and study together. Some groups focus strictly on the Bible while others rotate through Biblical and topical studies. Studies are chosen by the group and approved by the leadership. A typical group meeting lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. Acts 2:42-47 "They devoted themselves to the apostles'teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were doneby the apostles." HOW is a Small Group ministry different from other Bible Studies? Small groups are more than studying the Bible or topical subject together. When you commit to a small group, you commit to the study but also to care for and meet the needs of other group members. The real difference between a Small Group and a Bible study happens outside of group time. Small group members will become your closest friends and people you will turn to in time of need. Galatians 6:2 "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." 1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." WHERE and WHEN can I get connected to a group? To get connected, pick up a contact sheet at the Information Center and contact the individual small group leaders. You will be glad you did!!! If you have additional questions or need more information, please call the church office (703) 548-0339. |
